Love yourself

I know what you’re thinking: okay, Justin Bieber. Yes, we’ve heard the song over and over..

Self love is one of the toughest lessons we are faced with to learn and newsflash; it doesn’t and never will end.

For many of us, we need to learn how to conquer and keep our demons in check. Acceptance is the first step. After acceptance, we then need to tackle the ups and downs before we can truly move forward. Trying to suppress what we feel may seem like a solution in the moment but the problem will, probably, only grow bigger. #ownit

Is there a way to really truly love ourselves 100%? Maybe, maybe not. Many of us are our own worst critic. Honestly, I’m still struggling in the process of truly loving myself. There are days where I am able to genuinely laugh and there are days I feel nothing but a heavy weight on my shoulders from my thoughts. I feel especially bitter and frustrated about the person I become on these days when I feel consumed by my own darkness. In those moments, I question who I am and the parts of me that I have lost.

Have I found a solution? Not entirely, but let me tell you what has worked for me so far:

Mind your inner voice – the mind is always operating. Become aware and conscious of how you treat yourself in your own mind. Pay attention to your self-talk and how it makes you feel. Discard the demeaning thoughts and direct your mind and actions to positive behaviours.

Take a break from social media.

Surround yourself with supportive people.

Positive affirmations are what I like to call food for the soul. Start the day right, just like a good breakfast fuels you up, positive affirmations with fuel your mind and spirit and will set the tone for the day.

Celebrate your successes.. self esteem and self love go hand in hand.

Self care is NOT selfish! Nourish yourself. Exercise. Meditate. Get the sleep you deserve. Eat the donut!

I would love for us to try an exercise in the comment section together. Share 3 things you love about yourself.

Here are mine:

  1. I am open minded and appreciate new perspectives
  2. My passion
  3. My determination and resilience
