Blue Monday is thought to be the most depressing day of the year. Spoiler: it isn’t.
It’s pointless to try and identify the most depressing day of the year because it would be different for each one of us. It is also important to distinguish between temporarily feeling down, which we all relate to from time to time and experiencing depression or a mental health problem that can be quite disabling for our day to day lives.
Perhaps the true meaning of Blue Monday is that we all have mental health and there are steps we can take on every day of the year to try and protect it. We shouldn’t just be thinking about our mental health today 20/01 this year, but on every day of the year.
It’s important to take care of yourself.
Breathe. Talk about your feelings. Keep active. Enjoy nature. Eat well. Drink sensibly. Get enough ZZZs. Keep in touch. Ask for help. Take a break. Do something you’re good at. Accept who you are. Talk to friends & family. Self care. Meditate.
